OUR WEALTH
The “Il Poggiolo” winery dedicates great attention to the care of its vineyards, adopting the principles of a low environmental impact, rational and sustainable agriculture.
The professed by the winery is an agriculture based on reducing the number of treatments to a minimum, eliminating the use of herbicides to control weeds and using organic fertilizers in order to maintain optimal soil fertility values.
The philosophy of running our vineyards has the main objective of obtaining quality grapes, starting from a balanced pruning of the vine, passing through a respectful management of the foliage, up to the manual harvest of the grapes.
TECHNICAL DATA OF THE VINEYARDS
LAND
Mainly of clay composition, slightly calcareous. The unique microclimate and excellent exposure of the Oltrepò Pavese create the optimal conditions for producing high quality grapes.
GRAPES GROWN
Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Riesling, Malvasia di Candia Aromatic, Croatina, Barbera, Uva Rara, Vespolina, Merlot.
Some of these grapes are traditionally grown in the Oltrepò Pavese area, others (such as Chardonnay and Merlot) are international varieties, reflecting the company’s continuous research for innovation which they consider indispensable.

VINEYARDS' MAP
The vineyards of the “Il Poggiolo” Winery are divided into 4 large areas called “Vigne del Poggio – Guastona – Casa Cristiani”, “Costera”, “Brughera” and “Brèga”. Each of these has unique pedo-climatic characteristics, which allowed a zoonation process that led to identify the suitable grape variety based on the characteristics of the soil and climate.
