Terracotta amphora aged wine

MUNICIPALITY AND PRODUCTION AREA
The hamlet of Poggiolo di Montù Beccaria, in the Oltrepò Pavese area in Lombardy (Italy)

LOCATION AND EXPOSURE OF THE VINEYARDS
Grapes from around 20-year-old vineyards with south-east exposure. The soil is
loamy-clayey.

PLANTING DENSITY AND VINE TRAINING SYSTEM
Guyot, with an average planting density of about 4.000 vines/hectare.

GRAPE BLEND AND HARVEST PERIOD
Merlot 100%
Manual harvest of the grapes towards the end of September / first ten days of
October.

VINIFICATION AND BOTTLING
Red vinification, characterized by a long period of contact with the skins (20-25 days) in concrete tanks at the end of which the racking is carried out. This is followed by an aging of about 12 months in a terracotta amphora where the aromas and structure of the wine improve; subsequently the wine is bottled and after six months put on the market.

SENSORY TEST AND TECHNICAL NOTES
Still wine with great body, with a ruby red color tending to garnet. The nose releases a perfect combination of wild berries (both red and black) and the typical slightly herbaceous notes of Merlot that evolve over time into hints of roasting, cocoa, pepper and leather. On the palate the wine is soft and enveloping, with an important structure and a velvety and round tannin.
Before serving, it is best to let it settle for at least an hour.
Alcohol content: 14% vol – Acidity: 5.5 – 6.0 g/l
